Students & Youth

At Kakivak Association we believe education is a key part to success and securing future employment. This is why we offer support and funding for students who pursuing a post-secondary education. In addition, we support training and career awareness for youth while still in high school.

 

Our Programs

 

Inuit Post-Secondary Education Program

Entrepreneurs can also access the Individual Sponsorship Program if they wish to attend a post-secondary education or training program related to their business, or for general business management.

The Summer Work Experience Program

This provides employer wage subsidies for summer work experience opportunities for Inuit students attending secondary or post-secondary school.

  • Eligible expenditures include wage subsidy at a maximum of $18/hr + 13% MERC for non-profit and 50% of the maximum for private organization. Other expenditures include personal protective equipment (PPE). Individuals with disability can receive up to $20/hr + MERC as well as special equipment.

The Mentored Work Placements Program

This program supports youth mentored work experiences, it also supports the acquisition of skills required for work placements.

  • Eligible expenditures include wage subsidy at a minimum of $20/hr or a maximum of $22/hr + 13% MERC for non-profit and 50% of the maximum for private organization. Other expenditures include personal protective equipment (PPE). Individuals with disability can receive up to $22/hr + MERC as well as special equipment.

The Science and Technology Program

This program supports activities that promote science and technology as an education and career choice, including science camps, computer clubs, and activities that connect science and technology to traditional Indigenous knowledge.

  • Eligible expenditures include: facility rental, materials produced exclusively for students to promote specific career subjects, fields of study for such as testimonials and biographies but not including general program advertising, transportation, and admission and event fees for students and chaperones.

The Career Promotion and Awareness Program

This program provides support for the provision of career development information and awareness through projects such as career fairs, career planning session, leadership project, life skills/work skills session, motivational speakers, and session about leadership or role models

  • Eligible expenditures include: facility rental, materials produced exclusively for students to promote specific career subjects, fields of study for such as testimonials and biographies but not including general program advertising, transportation, and admission and event fees for students and chaperones.
